Ok I have my 231 HEI ready to install in the 225.

And the dist body hits the manifold.
I have a torks bit bolt in all ready.

It seems like I need to take too much off the ear of the manifold??
Could I grind some off the dist housing and half the differance.?

    Anyone had this problem?

The factory HEI manifold is ground down alot. On a taper, too. At first glance, it looks like someone got carried away with the grinder, but they all look like that. I suppose you could take a little off the dist body...

I've seen a couple with HEI installed but don't recall seeing any with the dist body ground down although that did cross my mind when I was looking at doing one of mine. I might still do that since I haven't started grinding anything yet. You try it first, let me know how it turns out  .

Grind the manifold, use a button head bolt on that corner are the two options that you'll find in the forum here and elsewhere.

Re: 225 HEI fit up PIC'S

    Ok here are my pics.
Tired of working on it for now so had some time to put these up.
Went pretty well. I didnt grind it down as far as I could have so it goes in pretty tight to edge of manifold you might want to go down more than I did.
Not in pic is the last fitting I grinded on the edge of the bolt head and then on the side of the dist. housing a little.
The bolt that came out of my 231 oddfire was to short because of not grinding it lower so I got a couple different lenghts to try.

It started right up but has a scraping ticking noise coming from the base of the dist. I also replaced the oil pressure gauge and noticed it was low thought maybe just not primed up yet but thinking now i have some kind of mesh problem in the dist gear oilpump area hope nothing broken....

At that point I shut it down and came in cold and wet and wife has a big honey do list so anyway will get back to it.

Distributor is fully in and seated? It will run without meshing the oil pump shaft. DAMHIK.

It is in and seated and I realy thought I had it in right made sure with flashlite for orintation of oil pump tang so not sure what the noise is.

But it seemed to be loudest at base of dist.:(
Runs smooth was just going to time it when I relized had a noise located noise and turned it off was time to get away from it but I guess it has to come out and see whats up.

There was some good wear on old dist gears so maybe its a new gear mesh on old cam gear noise...?

The rotor should fit on there fine and only one direction or you have the wrong one I'd guess.

BTW, if the posts the weights ride on are worn, there are bushing kits to fix that at your FLAPS.

Good idea on the weight's ,bushing's. think I will get those.
Set the timing at 5 seem's good not use to the rough idell.
Has a slight stumble but havnt done the carb yet.
Adjusted the mix for best idell.
Have it at about 650, is that about right, the rough idell is throwing me a bit.
