hey my jeep currently has a dana20 tcase and a amc 20 centered axle, im converting it back to a dana 18 t case and i was wondering if it would be ok to temporarily drive around with the offset case connected to the centered axle? or should i just unhook the rear d/s and drive around in 4wd with the front axle? im going to put a dana44 offset rear in, i just need to find one with 3.75's to match my front.

You could do it but it'd bind and vibrate bad. Best bet is to leave the
D20/AMC 20 in till you have the D44/D18 combo ready and do it all at once. ;)

you will hate it. unless it is on the trail but for anything else it isnt good. hence why i changed to a dana 20 right quick when i swapped in my rear centered axle.

What he said! Good luck finding an offset 44 with that ratio. Probably 90% of the centered ones will be 3.73, but common ratios for the offset are going to be 5.38 and 4.88 with an occasional 4.27. But you could get lucky.

    BTW *******.

I have a 3.73 carrier out of an offset 44 that I have no use for. Gears are Junk and the spiders are gone, but that stuff will work out of any Dana 44 you find. But you will need the 3.73 carrier as it is different than the 4.27 and lower carriers.
