I was rebuilding my T-98A today and my reverse gear is in bad shape. Is the reverse idler gear the same in both the T-98 & T-18? Also, does anyone know where I can find one?

    Thanks for the help,
    Mike

Try Herm the Overdrive Guy? R&P? They're both up in your part of the country I think.

You might post a pict. It is common for the teeth on the engagement side to be ground up a bit. May not be as bad as you think.

Reverse is a straight-cut sliding gear in the T98/T18 isn't it? Same as first except on an idler? These gears don't have to be great compared to the synchromeshed beveled gears... I'd suggest you post up pictures of the damage and get some opinions. A little rounding is ok, as long as you don't have badly broken teeth.

I replaced 1st and rev. in my T18 and they're not cheap. I had broken teeth on both as my tranny came out of a plow truck. Lots of 1st to rev shifting done, obviously on the fly. As I recall 1st gear was in the neighborhood of $180.00 I wouldn't replace them unless they have broken teeth.

x3 or whatever. Mine were rounded over, too, and I took it to a tranny guy for a professional opinion, and he told me on that gear he doesn't replace them unless there is sever chipping or teeth completely missing. I shopped PartsMikeParts and was very happy.
