Update and question.

Well I finished wiring up my jeep and everything works....except the guage cluster. The speedo works....but the cable doesn't spin. Not to bad to fix...However, my gas guage doesn't read anything. How can I test whether the guage, the sending unit, or both isn't working properly?

BTW EZ wirng kit is worth every penny. I started out super discouraged but after digging in....its all realy simple.

The tank sending unit is a rheostat (variable resistor). There's a spec for what the resistance should be at each level. You can test the gauge by substituting fixed resistors or a potentiometer for the sender. Make sure the sending unit is well grounded.

Wouldn't it be easier to say: Take wire off sending unit. Ground wire. Fuel gauge should read Full.

You can kill the gauge if you ground the wire more than momentarily. Be careful. The sender always has some resistance.

 

You might run a ground lead from one of the mounting screws to the body and see if that helps.R) :hurrican:

 

Steel or Poly tank? Seems that I had a grounding problem after switching to a poly tank.. IIRC-

 

The tank is steel. As far as I can tell this is the tank the PO replaced the old tank with.
