Hey I am looking for a replacement double element/filiment bulb holder that snaps in place of the original single element bulb for the clearance lights in the grill of my '48. I would like to add turn signals without adding a big light on top of the fenders if possible. Any clean looking solutions you have seen? Thanks

I did exactly what you want to do, and I found the snap-in sockets on the shelf in my FLAPS. Neither the early -2A or the late -2A marker light housings have very much space inside, so an 1157 bulb may not fit and that could be a real problem. The plastic lenses that Willys used are really susceptible to heat, and if the bulb is any closer than stock you will melt the lenses in short order.

In the end, I went with a set of lights from a later Willys product, I think they came from either a wagon or a pickup. These housings had the glass beehive lenses, but were only a single-filament bulb & socket, so I carefully cut the old socket assembly out and fitted a snap-in dual-filament socket into the old housing. Voila! I now have period-looking signal housings.

In order to make the later housings fit my grill shell, I used an electrician-friend's chassis punch to enlarge the hole in the grill since I had the later-style '2A sockets originally. (This won't be an issue if you have the earlier ones.)

A picture is worth a thousand words they say, so here is the end result:[IMG]

Looks nice to me. I like your tires, On Friday I had 4 of the same size delivered from Summit, I was going to have them installed yesterday but couldn't get my Jeep to start.:(

thanks for the great reply, I'm headed to the store to look around for some options on bulb holders. If anyone else has other ideas, it would help me.
p.s. I really like the way your yellow Jeep came out- really original looking but better, I think! Thats how mine is, but its on 32x10.5 radial swampers, and now I'm starting to add too much accessories to it, like winch, spare tire, gas can mount. Oh well, still fun. The picture is before some of this stuff was added, I will get a new picture later.

I found A.J., a super guy to do business with.

    http://www.taillightking.com/

He had some very small bulbs that fit into the original beehive housing. Solved my problem. I wish I could remember the number, and could pull the beehive cover if needed, to get it.

From his site, I think this is it:

30340 Stop, Tail, Turn, Park 1157 Miniature, Rod Light Bulb, dual element, 21/4 candle power, 12Volt, Standard size 2-pin base, pins indexed, 1" tall.(In Stock)

If it's a light, or bulb he has it !

I was facing the same problem on a 3b. What I finally ended up doing was grinding off the high stud of the bulbs. Drilled a small hole to match the height of the one on other side. Solder in a small brass rod about the same size as the orginal stud and closed the hole. The only thing is,that you can get the bulb in 180 degrees off. Park lights bright, turn signal dull. Made a couple of extras .

Thanks for the help. Maybe I can fit one of those mini 1157 bulbs and socket into my stock clearance lamp location, I'll check. I don't really want to drill out the hole in my grill if possible, so I'm going to check about hiding a couple universal marker lamps in my grill, behind the grill bars to use as turn signals only, and retain stock marker lights. I'll see how it looks- Thanks everyone.

    if all else fails.....
    the JCW catalog for motorcylces
    look under bullet lights
they have one that's very close to the Jeep bullet lamp
12v dual filament with amber lens
    what I used
    mounting pedastal requires minor tweaking
and they are bling which is what I was looking for too
