my jeeps old exhaust leaked from everywhere and you could smell it. Last month i bought a new exhaust, completly new everything from walcks, even a new manifold.

When i had the halfcab hardtop on i didnt smell exhaust at all. now with the full soft top it smells inside. even with the back unziped and the doors off it smells. why is this?
when im driving with it with doors and all ziped up it will smell at different speeds and at different times. my friend said somthing about the exhause backdrafting and that just by the jeeps shape some will blow back into the cab. but his hypothesis was pretty much shut down when i zipped up the back window and it was still there.

there cant be any exhaust coming from the firewal, if so the halfcab would of smelled so its got to be coming from somwhere else.

also if i the air/feul mix is off will that lead to a smelly exhaust?

I would still lean this way. How does you tailpipe exit? Jeeps are far from airtight and it could still work it's way into the cab.

I have my exhaust exiting out right in front of the rear tires. I never small the exhaust. If yours exits out the back maybe you could turn it so it exits out the side.

it exits out the factory way, it turns from the muffler and exits right out under the passenger side of the crossmember.

Is it running rich? Exhaust always seems to smell more when the mixture is rich.

Thats the "JEEP" smell, why would you want to get rid of that?R) Next you'll want to not smell fuel!R) I had mine out the back and it really stank, then I turned it out side behind rear wheels and it cured it. How about driving faster?:)

I had the same thing with my new exaust. I added one of those chrome tips thats about 6 inches long with a slash cut on the end, cured the problem.
