    I found http://www.rockhard4x4parts.com/cj5-55.html

I can't think of why it wouldn't fit in my 1964 CJ 6 with the hardtop on. Its not close to ideal, but it would offer some protection for now. Will it fit and work as needed (Low speed roll) until a proper cage can be mounted?

Are you thinking of the *whole* cage?

Your CJ6 fenderwells (which the entire rear portion of the rollcage mount to) are 20" further back than a CJ5 so it won't work without modifications.

If you're thinking of just the "sports bar", it would work but you could probably find something used for a whole lot less $$.

FWIW by the time you add up all the pieces to that you're in the $$ range that I paid for my custom cage.

I have a CJ5 factory roll bar from a 1976 in my 1970 CJ6. It bolted in on top of the fender wells. It has a Meyers hard top.

If you want to use the CJ-5 cage, I'd suggest you put the 'sport bar' (the usual CJ-5 rollbar??) on the fenderwells and add a new hoop behind the front seats. Keep the front hoop where it is. The sport bar will collapse in a rollover unless it has the wheel wells underneath it.

Just the CJ-5 sport bar on the fender wells will be too far back to be of any use in a rollover. Even the correct rollbar for a CJ-6 will not protect you from collapse of the windshield in a rollover, particularly with a steel cab (ask me how I know - BTDT). You need the front bar and a hoop behind the front seats. 3 hoops, front, middle and back ala Boyink are needed if you want to protect your rear seat passengers too.

JMO - no way can you use the CJ-5 cage (or sport bar) without some mods - cutting, welding, and more tubing. Wouldn't be safe.

Jeez, I hope you're gonna hang onto that hard top! That sucker looks nice, and I'm sure those are getting rare.

Absolutely sir. This will just be a puddle jumper. Nothing hardcore. But if I do ever go out and play where I think I might need the protection of a roll bar; that top is coming off. I figure its probably worth more than the jeep i.e. I've found more CJ6's for sale then tops like that.
