Awhile ago when I trailered my CJ, I got tired of the chains and binder hassle.
I decided if these were good enough to tie down loads for a big rig, they should work for a Jeep. I made two as I have receivers front and rear. Works great and saves a lot of hassle re-tightening binders etc. Thought this might be an idea for you who trailer a lot. [IMG][/IMG]

Edit: A shoe repair shop can fold and sew the straps for you.

Hey that is a good idea! I bought some little straps that wrap around the axle shaft then a ratcheting strap attaches to that, allot nicer than chains, but I like your idea best!

That is a cool idea. I use the axle/ratchet straps as well. I will have to see if I can make that work.

When I build both my trailer to put my jeep on, and the other trailer to tow behind the jeep, I put 2 inch receivers facing upwards every 2 feet down the center of each. This way I can plug in a bunch of stuff like racks for bikes canoes, as well as winches and something like what you have designed here.
    Thanks Ed

Please, always use an actual chain on the rear of your Jeep or any other vehicle tied to your trailers, at least as a safety chain!
I have pics (somewhere) of what happens when the tow rig gets in trouble and has to (or is forced into) a sudden stop,
let's just say it took some time to get the Jeep out of the truck's bed..... and the front bumper went thru the rear window in the truck.
20,000 lb strap alone is not the best thing to hold a vehicle on your trailer, but sure, you can use it. All car carriers are supposed to use a steel chain as a safety chain on the rear of vehicles.

This from a current truck driver (12 years) and a former tow truck/car carreir driver. Safety First!

In most states two tiedowns are required front and rear for safety reasons. I have welded shackle mounts on each axle tube and use a 3/8" shackle and a strap on each corner.
