I need some help in determinin what could be leakin on my f head in my cj5. It has allways had a small and I mean small puddle under it everytime I moved so I never worried about it. but since takin it for a drive on sat it had a bigger puddle then normal. the small one was around the siz of a quarter and the bigger puddle was around the size of a football. so I pulled it to high ground (my driveway has a bunch of artesian wells on it and it is just really soupy right now) and took a gander. It looks to be coming from the flywheel housing. there is also what appears to be a plug or a hole in the bottom that was cast into the bell housing. this is where it accumulates. I am guessin a rear main seal. I am used to workin on chevys so I am unsure on how take it apart. I have a haynes manual and this weekend if I can get the jeep into my fathers garage then I will tear it apart. if not It will have to wait until it gets a little warmer out.
on a different note the owner before me had the oil filter hoses removed and plugged by a mechanic. I would like to get these hooked up pronto. I have allways put new oil in at the begginin of summer and the end. normally in that amount of time from time of change to the next is only 150miles tops. alot of the time it is around 50-75 miles. where is the in and where should I run the out line at. if some one has pics then that would be helpful. the engine is a 134 fhead in a 70 cj-5. thanks for any help.

Rear main seal is most likely. It's engine oil right? not transmission oil?
If it's the rear main seal it'll mean at least a lower engine rebuild.

oil filter lines one goes in the timing gear cover, other goes into block on driver side just below and front of the fuel pump, some of these engines have a rope seal, bottom half no problem to replace in jeep top half have to pull the crank, and canot do that in jeep,if you get lucky and have rubber seal you can do it in jeep, good luck

I was told by the last owner that it leaked oil but it seemed it only did it when it sat. i figured that it was a leather or I guess in this cas a rope seal that would dry out and let some leakage happen when ran. then once it got rehydrated it sealed good. I will tear apart and see.
as for the lines. does anyone know what filter I need know. thanks fellas and takereasy.

Rear mains are not hard too do. I did them without tearing the lower end apart. Remove the oil pan and the rear nain cap. Just make sure you buy a FEL PRO set or you will be sorry. I have had bad luck with trying cheaper sets of gaskets. IMHO
