Everything is coming along with the PS upgrade but the shaft differences. The input on the 83 cj box is 13/16" and the intermediate manual shaft was 11/16". How do I join these together? Rag joint or can I get a U for this like the top connection?

Also, how do you guys run the belts. Will I need a twin belt crank pulley?

Both look like they have what I need. I'll go home tonight and count the splines and double check the diameters. I figured it was that easy.

Still baffled on the pulley setup. Lots of pics here of the Saginaw box setup but not the pump, brackets and pulley?

Having a V6 mine's different from yours...... but IIRC I have a double pulley on my waterpump. I run one belt Crank/waterpump/alternator, and a 2nd belt runs waterpump/ps pump only.
Should be lotsa pics out on the net of 258s... [IMG]

Seeing that PS was an option in 74, I would think a could find the pulley. So is it normal to have a double pulley somewhere else then the crank that powers the ps pump?

    Here's one pic I found:

This last one looks like the crank has a double pulley.

My 1974 FSM shows, for a CJ six cylinder w/o ac or air pump, a double crank pulley. The inside pulley drives the p/s pump and the outside pulley drives the water pump and alternator.

    that's correct
the bad news is that 1974 uses it's own unique pulley/vibration damper
there are a whole slew of different ones listed for the different years too
don't know if it's offset, pulley diameter, or both

Ok, figured out that I need to go from a 3/4" 36 spline to 13/16" 36 spline. Flaming river has this joint for $75 plus shipping. Can I find something like this local?????

Also, where do I start looking for this unique pulley for the 74??

    -Thanks

    only unique in part number
without a 74 and 75 lying side by side, I couldn't tell you the difference
it'll go on the motor regardless, no issue there
pulley diameter or amount of offset all I can think of

If I understand you right, you have a Rag joint that will fit on the Input shaft, and a Bell coupler that won't right? I had the same deal.

I tore apart the rag joint and scavanged the splined clamp. Then tore apart my Bell coupler joint and cut off the splined clamp section. Next I welded the splined section from the Rag joint to the end of the bell coupler and cut off the wings that held the rag in the rag joint. Clear as Mud?

    here's a finished picture.

Well I got the coupler coming I needed so that is complete. Looking at the pump it has a double pulley. One large and one small pulley on it offset by less then an inch. So I guess I can adapt this to work.
After searching, I see that the 74 258 is tapped and ready on the passenger side for PS pump brackets. I have a 83 pump and brackets for the drivers side. The pump design should be the same if I can find PS pump brackets to fit a 258 1974? Checked AA and others. Is this a bone yard part???
