That damn light bulb does make a difference. Who would of known. Where I lack intelligence, I make up with stubborness. Light works great, jeep charges great, ignition turns off and on. Felt so proud of my self that I wired the 74 CJ5 "correctly" . It still takes a little throttle to get it to charge though. I just never thought that a inline light bulb would act like that. Thanks again guys, I'm one step closer to being a early CJ guru.

Never had a problem with them charging w/o the light.....shrug.

You can change the regulator to a self exciting one to help get it to charge at a lower RPM

Wouldn't the light act a little like a resistor and by not having it installed you were getting full juice?

yA Know..........Yes it would make a difference in a 10si 3 wire setup...........I had just assumed (danger) that you were doing a 1 wire ..........so yup you need the bulb or a resistor to excite.......
