    sparkey, I didn't mean for my post to sound mean . I just wanted people to know, what can happen if a tire comes loose under your fender, and two piece axles can cause that to happen if they break. If it has not happened to no one else that's great, maybe it was it just a once in a life time thing. anyway I hope so.

    I understand your frustration, believe me. I've lost two wheels from vehicles. One on 80/94 in Chicago. :shock:

    I was just pointing out that your experience (luckily for most, unluckily for you) is the exception not the rule. Any piece of machinery may fail. Best we can do is maintain it best we can and be aware of the inherent risks that go with driving something like this. :beer:

    I'd think if you considered all the use and abuse and miles compared to the failures the danger is minimal. That '66 Olds probably had C clip axles, they have their own share of troubles.
