I have a stupid question about a Dana 20 tcase. Does anybody have the shift boot off of their tcase that can take a pick of the linkage for me? I need the pic because my linkage was missing so I had to fab something up and now my shift pattern is different. I need to pay special attention to the rod that goes the tcase and what position it is in for 2hi, N, 4hi, and 4lo. I have attached some pics so you can see what I am talking about. Thanks alot

That helps a little, but I really need to see the lever in all the different gears so that I can make sure that I have my shift pattern correct. The pic from the book only shows me how it assembles, but not what it looks like together in 2,n, and 4 hi and lo. The reason I think the shift pattern changed somehow is that I have the shifter all the way up towards the engine and it is in 2hi, then I go down one and it goes into N. I just wanted to be sure about 4 hi and low before I really tried to use them. Thanks for the help though.

So if the links are correct, would the 3rd gear down be 4 hi and the last gear down be 4lo? Sorry for the ignorance, just not incredibly mechanically inclined, I'm tryin to learn Right now I believe it is shifting to the pattern from the top of 2hi-N-4Hi-4Low on the bottom

That is what the shifter says, but I have it all the way up and its in 2hi then there are 3 gears below that. If the pattern hasn't changed there should only be 2 gears below 2hi: N and 4lo. I am just really confused right now.

I would disconnect the link from the shifter, either end.
Then work the outer link/lever to get and make sure it goes thru all the correct positions.
Then in 2wd position, center and adjust the adjustable link to that setting; with that set correctly, the rest should fall into order.
Your new link may be too long/too short and that's where the problem lies.

I am pretty sure this is two high in this pic, my linkage is longer because of the t-18 4 speed, but should be same positions.
Looks like if you are not getting 4H, then you should try to shorten your new rod and then test if you have 4H all the way ahead, and 4L all the way back. Hope this helps. One more thing, my jeep won't hardly shift unless I am slightly moving, then the rubbery feel of the 4wd shifter feels a little more positive. Good luck!

I have my boot off and should be able to get you some pics tonight.

edit; just went down to take pics and the camera said to change batteries, I'll try again tonight. If it helps, the connector rod is 4 inches long total, 3 1/2 from center of pivot to center of pivot.

Sorry for taking so long to get the pictures. We got home the other night and had family waiting, then a wedding Saturday, anyway pictures attached in the four positions.
