    hello...
im currently working on a '74 cj-5 (258) and was wondering if anyone could help with a little problem i've run into.

a little background first...this is the earliest jeep i've ever owned. the others were '76-'86 cj-7's. im working out of a '74 factory tech manual. when i bought the jeep the block was mounted in the jeep but everything else was in a box...after collecting a few missing pieces...(radiator, hoses, intake manifold, etc...) i started to assemble everything i had hoping to get it started. when i got to the alternator bracket/belt tensioner i noticed in the tech manual that the one i had appeared to be different than what was pictured, it appears to be a two piece bracket in the manual(i only have one piece...)...and it is mounted on the drivers side(???).

first off...does the alternator/bracket mount on the drivers side? if so, where?

second...is the bracket a two piece? does anyone know where i might be able to get one? i've checked all the local junk yards and a few "jeep only" yards to no avail.

if i need to send pics of what i've got i can.

    any help would be appreciated.

    thanks,
    danny

Yep, you have the correct bracket. It should mount on the drivers side and is 1 piece.

ive enclosed a few pics of the bracket i have mainly because i'm still having problems with it...

im assuming the one corner mounts under a shared bolt with the water pump(???)...the other is still a mystery to me...

again thanks for the help guys.

The top one is for adjustment (obviously) and the bottom one just goes through the mount on the alternator. Put the alternator behind it with a bolt through the bracket, through the alternator, then through the support on the engine block, with washers and a nut.

    nevermind...

after many hours of not being able to get the belt tight with only ONE bolt holding it (the bracket/alternator) to the block, some friends and i took the motor out and put it in a field and took turns shooting it with a .30-'06. R)

    stupid p.o.s.
