Going to finish off everything this weekend and test drive "Bertha" by Sunday night. Shes been in the garbage since I bought her. Rewired everything and added ignition switch last night. Gave it a test crank and she wants to turnover but nothing. Dont want to burn up the starter.

What it is - 258 with HEI so no coil. Have spark to all plugs and gas coming in the new Motorcraft 2100. Engine spins freely while I hit the switch but it just doesn't catch? Sounds like it wants to but needs something.

    Need suggestions!!!

I had similar symptoms when I was out wheeling once. I was getting gas and spark. It turned out to be my distributor cap needed to be replaced, and I replaced all the spark plug wires while I was at it. It started right up after that.

Thought that, but I have a brand new HEI dist. with spark at all spark plugs.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, and I don't mean to be offensive, but are all 6 wires from the dist. plugged into the correct cyl. in the correct firing order?

Found it. The bolt for the clamp that holds the dist. in place was loose and the dist. was way advanced. Put back @ TDC and she fired right up. Thanks for the help.
