Replacement windshield latch '72 CJ5

The latches on my windshield are all but completely shot. I go over a bump and the windshield bounces and goes back and forth like it is about to go flying off the jeep. I found this part from 4wd.com, but I don't know how much better it would be, does anybody have these on their jeep and do they help eliminate at least a little of the sway? Thanks alot

I have had to change out to those latches on both of my CJ's and I'm very
happy with them. I havent had any problems with them, you just have to give them a twist every couple of months.

 

I've got a pair of those sitting in a box. I tried to install them a few months ago and suffered much frustration as the holes did not line up with the existing holes, which has a nut receptacle on the backside of the dash. I was really P.O.'d about it and had a different vendor that refused to give me a refund despite being told it fits onto existing location without modification.

All that said, I'm not parting with them. I've found a connection that has a CNC machine that will mill slots in those brackets so I have enough play to install them on existing holes. I think the design seems good enough that if not for the hole misalignment, I'd have been absolutely pleased. They are heavier and bulkier than I imagined though.

 

I experienced the same misalignment, all I did was install all the bolts before
I tightened all of them. Anyone else have this issue?

 

Thats what I did. Get them all started and the plate to sit flat and tighten down. A pain but I figure it should be rattle free!

 

One of the best purchases that I have made for my '67 CJ. I just got them this summer and they are awesome. I also had a little trouble getting the holes to line up, but still managed to get them on with the above method of getting all of the bolts started. Probably manufacturing differences in the windshield throughout the years.

I no longer need to grab ahold of my windshield everytime I go over the railroad tracks....

Also they are cheaper if you order directly from AA. I think shipping was less as well.

I had the same problem but I may have found a solution. My 74 CJ-5 is in the body shop and will be painted by days end tomorrow. I had the idea to plug the holes in the windshield frame and not cut holes in my custom dash. I will be putting a footmans loop on the normal place in the inside of the windshield frame and one on the underside of my roll cage. I will probably place a rubber block of some sort in between the windshield and the cage and then I will use the windshield tie down strap to keep the windshield in place. Hope it works... I will let you know. Otherwise I will be drilling new holes in brand new paint...not good.
