How does this tool work?

    I am killing my self in the garage trying to get my rear hubs off. One came off with just a little beating but the other just refuses to come off. I know we have talked alot about hub pullers but I look at this one and have no idea how it will help me. I understand that the center screw on the puller will push on the axle shaft that comes through the hub/drum assembly. Where do the three legs hook too? Thanks..

    Do you REALLY have to remove the hub??

    This is one of those things that is best left alone unless there is a problem....

    The three "legs" go on three of the wheel studs. then hammer on the 'wings" to pull the hub off. It works very well...

    Yea, there is no way the drum was coming off. Once I get the hubs off I will have to drop the hub/drum assembly off at a machine shop to have them pressed out. Its a 68 CJ and I dont think they have ever been off..

    When you get the Hub Puller really tight. Hit the middle of the handle just like you would hit a nail. The shock should pop the hub off. Repeat if necessary.

    When things finally do give, it comes off with a bang so when using the puller, reinstall the axle nut loosely so that it will prevent the whole works from landing on your foot. As scott says, after you get the forcing screw good and tight, give it a good whack.

    I've heard of cases where these things can be really stubborn. On one of the forums, a fellow wrote about one that refused to come off so he left the puller attached under great tension and went out for lunch. When he came back, the whole works was lying on the floor.

    Thats funny, if the smack on the puller dident work I was going to put it on one night and head to bed.. Then see what I had come morning..R)

    looks like my dad's puller. works very well. I don't recommend dropping it on your foot.

    I once tried to pull my old d44 hub off. I didn't have that puller but I did have a Snap On hydraulic puller. WOW, what a cool tool, that hub shot off the axle with the sound of a shotgun and smashed into the wall. It was simply amazing :)
