Anyone know if you can get a trim kit to mount around the gas tank filler area on 66 CJ5? When the tank is filled, gas weeps out on rough trails and turns the paint yellow around the filler neck area. Just wondering if there is a trim kit available for this area of the body?

That's an underseat tank, right? Seem like you would need a new cap before the trim. The trim piece that goes around the filler neck seals the filler to the bidy, keeping gas from leaking back into the jeep.

Either way, the filler neck body seal is available from Turner 4wd www.thejeep.com

They've had good prices and service whn I've dealt with them.

Yeah its an under the seat original tank. The rubber seal is new and working fine, From what I've read, the cap is the vent source so its not practical to seal it 100% unless you vent the tank somewhere else. What I was considering is something cosmetic like diamond plate to cover the external area around the filler neck but I don't know if anyone makes anything like this.

This is on a CJ2A but the principle would be the same. I had to do this because I have an MB tub with a 2A tank. The tub had the large military hole. I made a cardboard template and cut the piece out of an old street sign. Diamond plate would work as well. I bolted it on with stainless bolts.

Not pooh poohing the idea, but every time I see diamond plate on a Jeep the first thing that goes through my mind is "what's he covering up?"

If that much gas sloshes out of the top of the filler neck/cap, I would say you need a new cap. The old seal is most likely deteriorated or it's the wrong type of cap to begin with. Even with a vented cap, gas should not slosh out.

Covering up with Diamondplate??? (uhh ohh he figured it out):)
Try this trick..get a sheet of laminating material, can be found at Staples or almost any decent office supply store, and cover the area around and underneath the gas filler (As needed!)
