They go under the rotor in the body of the distributor.

The only time I had a module in there and used it was recently and I was having other issues. It does seem to run smoother though and start easier.

just go to your local junk yard and pull a hei distriby from any V-6 motor you find, got mine off of a 86 buick T-type for 25.00, clean it out and put a recurve kit in it for 49.95+ tax with a Accel pro kit coil and controller. Thats on my other 71 that is still WIP never to be finished, 25,000 volts but only .787 amp draw. Total was 150 for a drop in full rig system that boosted on the dyno about 7 hp but throttle response went up drastically to about 4/10ths of a second. If you really want more getupango for street stoppin you gotta ditch the flywheel for a lighter rig. that 50 lb flywheel is what lags the motor on acceleration tryin to get the torque to spin it is tough for any engine. the test we did on the dyno with a Vendi pro GNX buick flywheel we machined for mounting the 225 showed a 43% initial torque increase but you don't have the carry over spin anymore, the rpm's go down to idle to quick.

Did that '85 have a four or seven pin module? I thought by '81 or so the computer controlled advance so there weren't weights or vacuum advance. At least I had an even fire like that. You converted it to an odd-fire distributor I'm assuming since you didn't mention that step?

I knew...I have seen the others before also.

I have run 2 different HEI's. One was a EF/OF conversion that Sparky and I did. The next was the DUI. The DUI beat the converted one hands down.

I still felt a noticeable difference after I added the MSD box with my DUI. YMMV, IMHO, etc., but both the DUI and MSD helped significantly on my aging Dauntless. Would they be noticably better on a fresh/strong engine, not sure?

Bring it over, we'll find out. :D

Be interesting to see if we could discern any difference in your DUI and my stock HEI with new components. Both with my MSD.

Coil quality and vacuum advance setting should be the only difference at this point?

It'd be coil, mechanical advance since I'm guessing they curved it more specifically than I did, I just put different springs on mine that came with the adjustable vacuum advance unit.

Be interesting to see if it makes much difference to spend more $$ on the DUI/Proform over buying a stocker and putting fresh parts in.

Not that I have time to do something like that now, but I'd like to look at that somehow and write an article on it for the page. Need to figure out what measurements to take, how to do it, etc.

    :thinking outloud:

I have access to points, Pertronix, and two different styles of HEI. Would be interesting to do a comparison and cost analysis.

    :iagree:

No dyno available to me that I know of, but I have plenty of distributor styles and makes around.

this has really got me thinking, the hot rod shop i am talking about charges for each use, but if i explain why i am doing it, maybe they would give me a discounted rate and i could bring it over there everytime i added something ie: dist, coil, msd, headers, k&n, just to name some stuff that is on the top of my todo list.
