What is everyone running for a radiator on thier 225 or 231? I need to get a radiator and something common in a boneyard would be beneficial and cheap, I don't have access to the stock one. The centered top hose and right hand bottom kinda threw me when I saw it, I thought I had some possibilites lined up until I realized that....

believe it or not, I had a Volvo radiator in mine for 3 yrs and it worked great till it argued with my fan and lost. For 499.00 you can get a aluminum from summit but I put in the generic one for 169.00 from summit and it's great too.

Yeah for under $200 the universal Summit radiators are a great deal. That's what I'm planning on getting. If it's not out of your price range (you mentioned boneyard and cheap) aluminum is the way to go IMHO.

It's been mentioned here several times that a Pontiac Fiero radiator will work too. Do a search here for Fiero.

Just FYI, but copper has a higher heat exchange rate than aluminum so copper/brass radiators will dissipate heat quicker, allowing the engine to run cooler, than an aluminum radiator of equal size and rows can. Particularly since radiator shops aren’t using solder on the joints anymore, solder or tin/lead actually insulates heat, they’re using something called “CuproBraze” or copper brazing instead.
I recently did some internet research on this subject when I had radiator troubles. I started to go with a 2 row Griffin aluminum radiator from Summit ‘till I read the above. Instead I had my 4 row copper/brass radiator re-cored which wasn’t exactly cheap but that’s one area I really don’t wanna skimp on, keep’n my motor cool and happy.

Try to find a used stock radiator and have it recored. I had my stock 2 row recored to a 3 row and had the bottom outlet reinforced for 250.

I know where there is a stock one, but the owner didn't think it was worth it to pull it for me.

Someone here mentioned awhile back about using a 64-67 Mustang radiator from a 289. I also had my stock one recored.

That's interesting I always believed it to be the opposite. I'll have to look into that. You learn something new everyday.

So how are you guys using Fiero Radiators... the upper hose is on the wrong side :? I was looking into this. That is why I turned down a CJ radiator with the rolling chassis, it was a drivers side upper hose....

well now think about this.copper wire is preffered over alum. alum. is lighter for overhead lines, but not the best transmitter.i think the alum. radiator is a lot of hot rodder hipe.they do look nice and work about as good as brass. just my observation. mike s.

I bought a radiator for a 65 mustang and it fits... except that the bottom outlet is in the way of the fan. I'm not sure whether to see about having it modified at a shop or putting on an electric fan.

Huh...the guy I bought SSDutch from said he used a Mustang rad. The fan to lower outlet clearance is close enough that when I replaced the body mounts the fan hit the hose -- I had to lower the rad by 1/2" or so.

I always hate to sound contradictory, but there's more to the story than just the rate at which copper or aluminum transfers heat. The tubes in an aluminum radiator are shaped differently than a copper unit and allow the fins to contact them with more surface area for more better heat dissipation... if that makes any sense.

I had my old radiator recored with copper for $350 and went from two rows to three. I'm not running a fan anymore because of space problems. I have an electric fan in the clip that I can switch on when I'm stuck in Traffic. Everything is cool and quiet.

bought a radiator from a ford van supposedly... the outlets were really close and its narrow enough, looks like it may be tall but we will see, i was the closest the guy had. And it was cheap... When I get it running I guess we will find out.
