I am sure someone can answer this quickly, I am just not very auto savy. When I give my jeep a little gas, whether its in neutral or first gear, I get a loud screeching sound. I have heard it before on cars everywhere, I just never knew what it was that is causing it. I guess its true that you start to finish up one thing and stumble across others as you go.

From your description of "screeching" I would bet its the fan belt. You can get some belt dressing that you can spray on the belt and that should make it quiet again. A for a quick fix while the engine is OFF, take a bar of soap and apply it lightly on the inside of the belt. Good luck.

Yup, sounds like a belt. IMO, belt dressing and/or soap may stop the squeel temporarily, but if it's squeeling, theres something wrong, like a loose belt, glazed belt, worn pulley(s), etc.

My experience with belt dressing was it works for a day, then the noise is even worse.

Just tension the belt, or replace it if it's worn out. Cheap insurance. You can even keep the old one under the seat for an emergency spare.

Thanks for the advice. It hasnt made the sound before, and it has been started up in a few weeks. So when I cranked it up and gave it some gas, thats when the noise came in. I will do some checking on the belts. Most likely I will replace the fan belt, just because everything on the jeep is pretty worn. Thanks

Usually it's the P/S Pump. Check the fluid level as well as the belt tension and condition.
