It's getting to be fluid time for the Jeep! On recent trips to local FLAPs I've been pricing Gear Oil, since the T90, the D18 and the Warn OD are all empty so far. It seems like NAPA carries the StaLube and other brands for about $18/gallon, while the local Autozone carried the Coastal brand of 80W-90 for about $9 a gallon. Being dutch, of course I brought home a gallon of the Coastal, since it has the proper specs listed. But of course some bargains, don't turn out to be bargains, so I thought I'd ask for comments.

Yup. As long as it meets standards, oil is oil.

It should be GL4 not GL5 IIRC. Novak's website has more information on that. Double check there, don't take my word for it.

    From the novak site:
IIRC, the Coastal product covers both the -4 and -5 ratings. So it should be good.

If you know someone with an acount at your local Grainger, they list Mobil 80W-90 for $5.75 qt, or $40.35 for 2 1/2 gallons. They also sell Mobil I synthetic 75W-90 for $11.77 for a qt.

Well I'll add one more thing to this. I used that same gear oil but mixed it about 50-50 with Lucas gear oil, maybe a little thinner on the Lucas.

It quieted down the old dana 18 nicely, especially for around town use.

x3 on the Lucas. I used the Lucas gear oil on the tranny/tc and split one bottle of their oil addative three ways between the tranny/tc & engine. It stoped about 90% of my tranny leaks and also quieted it down quite a bit.

That stuff is quite thick when it's cold out. I've done the pour test with 80/90 and 85/140 here during the winter time and there's a big difference. Not so much during the summer.

I run the 90w140 to slow down the tranny/trans leaks. 85w90 in the axles.
