CJ3A Windshield frame... *HARDTOP PICS ADDED*

I thought I could swap what I thought was a CJ3A windshield frame on my 2A but it has no hinges like the CJ2A, I thought I could bolt this on my 2A as it was pretty much rust free and I got it for $40 with good glass. The guy said it was bolted in a fixed position on his 2A... he has a 2A hard top... could this be something from the hard top  the center vent is sealed closed with clamps as well.

Need to figure it out Or I am going to graft it with my 2A frame to make a folding windshield, unless I go back and get the hard top... (I am not obviously doing a restore here, the body is too far gone, If I do a Restore I will use a restoration Tub etc...

    this is the frame...

That windshield frame is from a military arctic hardtop, it should fit a CJ2A, CJ3A or an M-38.

I am guessing that is what the hard top he has is then. Does it not fold? He is supposed to be getting me pictures of the hard top. He said both his jeeps were CJ2A's one a 46 and one a 47, but there were a lot of military looking things on some of the parts I looked at.

Look on your 2a..There should be holes with two plugs made of brass..Take the out and the staionary frame will bolt there..It is a one piece for a military hard top..Its a real good price you paid..You getting the top too.??

I don't see any brass plugs, But I have these holes? If I can get a good price on the top I will get that too, If nothing else for the novelty of it. I have no idea what that top is worth though. I told him get me some pics.

The old frame is solid, but the inner windshield frame is gone, someone riveted sheetmetal into place for it to have a one piece windshield. I was not planning on selling it though, as I may want to use it later. Eventually I would like a stock 2A to play with, this one has a solid frame, and a good share of it is very solid, but the right rear quarter was hit as some point and has 1/4" of bondo in it, I think it would take more work and money then its worth to get it back to a good quality rig.

An issue you're going to have trying to fit that arctic windshield on your jeep is that it's going to sit straight up & down, with no angle . . . and I didn't see windshield latches on the pic of the windshield. The arctic top didn't need the latches, as the top itself held the windshield in place. My 2 cents . . . sell it to someone needing one for their M38 military jeep & get the right one . . .

Go buy a coupla sets of foam earplugs to go with that arctic hardtop. Even though I live in Pennsylvania and our winters are plenty cold, I couldn't STAND the noise level inside the cab with that damned hardtop on...

Likely It would only go on to store the jeep, to help keep stuff out as I do not have a garage and I am sure I can get it cheaper then a soft top. The jeep will be topless when I can eventually drive it on the road. I guess it's more a novelty as I don't see many of them.

He said the top is aluminum, he went and looked at it for me.

The jeep is quite a ways from being done, I will post pics when I get home.

Ahh, a Koenig hard top . . . . makes a nice investment if nothing else, folks are looking for those all the time, especially when they still have the windows in the doors. Not sure what the going rate is, but if you can get it for around $200 or less, you got a bargain.

That is actually an Artic Hardtop. I have one and modified it to fit my stock windshield on a CJ-2a. I didn't like the way the windshield for this top set straight up, instead of slanted back towards the driver. So I trashed the windshield that came with the top. However this mod envolved me building my own doors which was no small task. If you need anymore info. let me know.

If you search feature in this site and type in "hardtop" I have posted pictures of my Artic top modified to fit a stock CJ-3A windshield.

I actually have that thread saved in case I ever bought a hard top. It was the suicide style doors correct? Bright Yellow?

He said I can get it for $150, now to come up with some more money

Shoot that's a steal. As was said before, grab it and sell it to someone who needs it for a resto. Shouldn't take too long to find someone willing to pay a decent chunk more than you did! R)
