Good Evening. I feel as if I am destined to be the eternal newbie... but greatly appreciate all of the help that each of you have been in this learning experience.

I am on a quest... for the transmission fill plug. I have searched the forum and understand it is a square pipe plug on the drivers side, but after much time spent under the Jeep with my trusty flashlight, I cannot find it. I can find the transfer case on the passengers side without issue and have added fluid there multiple times.

I have an inkling I really need to add tranny fluid. She is not staying in gear when the RPMs get low and the overdrive is popping out.

I have been waiting to have someone replace the valve guides and haven't been driving. I went out tonight to add fluids before taking the Jeep to the doc in the morning and continued to fail on my search.

Everything appears to be stock on the Jeep other than the Advance Adapters OD. Do I need t add fluid anywhere to the OD?

    Thanks!
    Robert

    drivers side
    half way up
towards the rear of the trans case
might be hard to see with other components in the way
the OD gets its oil from the t/case
don't let it run low, OD first thing to suffer from lack of oil

NOTE: some folks change out the square head plug for a flush fit plug

I see two square pieces of metal that are cast into the transmission coming off teh drivers side of the transmission, but cannot find a plug. The shop is only about 8 miles from here. Should I just risk it in the morning? I have followed the whole assemblu up from where the OD goes into the PTO to where it meets the tranny meets the engine. I did find the drain plug on the opposite side above the skid plate, but still not fill plug.

I know I am going to feel a little silly once I finally find it. Thanks for the diections.

    hmm
    just a thought
T86/T90 trans has plug on drivers side
If you have a T14 trans (synchro first gear) the fill plug would be on the passenger side
do you know which trans you have ?

If it os on the passengers side, do you know where it would be in relation to the drain plug. The drain plug appears to be on the side at the bottom of the tranny.

I have found both the drain and fill plugs for the transfer case. The drain is on the bottom of the transfer case and the fill plug is about halfway up the passenger side.

Thanks again for all of your help. As to which transmission, I am not sure. It is a 3 speed, but that is about all I know.

I also have a '70, and mine is T14, and drain plug is in location described. Look on the passenger side just a few inches above and to the rear of the drain plug. You will have to reach your hand inbetween the trans and the D18 yoke/linkage, if that helps. Get yourself a hand pump unless you mind being covered in 90wt.

Thank you very much for the help. Sure enough... the drain plug is on the passengers side, above the skid plate, and requires a contortionist to get to it. Thank goodness there is one next door! Had hand pump and made quick work of it. Glad I added some, she took a LOT of 80/90wt. Thanks again for your help finding the fill plug.

It is currently sitting at Mark's Automotive behind Autozone on Charlotte between White Bridge Rd and I-40. They were the only shop I called that was willing to do an engine rebuild if I decided I wanted them to. They are quoting servicing the heads and a complete rebuild.

Do you know the name of the shop in Gallatin? I spend a lot of time up there.

    Thanks,
    Robert
