Sounds like you have the start position wired up correctly, you need the run position to run through the ballast resistor and power the coil then so that it remains running.

The (-) of the coil always feeds the distributor. The (+) side is always the one that is the power to the coil.

So that sounds right. You just need to make sure that there is a wire from the Run terminal on the ignition switch to the ballast resistor.

When you have the ignition on, you should see about 8 volts at the + side of the coil. When you turn the starter over, you should see 12 volts at the same place, if you have the terminal on the starter seloniod wired to the coil. This is to give it an extra boost, in case your battery is low. Hope this helps.

I didn't ask if it was hooked up to the ignition switch, I asked if it was hooked to the correct terminal?

Following what Barry said, is it getting ~8V at the coil with the key in the "run" position?

If it's hooked up to the right terminal but not getting 8V it might be a bad ignition switch.

What type of ditributor? "Ignition module" makes me think HEI Dist. The coil would be in the top of the cap and you would not need the resistor.

That sounds like an aftermarket ignition box on the firewall. You need to identify the manufacture to determine proper wiring.

X2. A picture, as usual, is immensly helpful here. I thought we were just working with a regular 12V coil points setup.
