    Hey guys.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of milage do you guys get with your F134s? I think I'm pretty sure I'm going to swap the CJ6 engine into the 55 CJ5, and I'm just wondering what kind of (in town) milage I might expect. The CJ6 doesn't have a speedometer, much less a fuel gauge (unless you count dipping a stick into the tank to see what I have) so I have no idea what it was getting. I've got plenty of other cars I can drive on the highway, so I'm not too worried about that, but I would like to see what you guys get in town...
Oh, and the '55 should have stock 5.38 gears, and smallish tires (somthing like NDTs, whatever size they are).

F-134 Milage? "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." ;-)

In the 'teens, but these things were meant to run on crap fuel and anywhere from Alaska to the Sahara. They are not ever going to be high efficiency highway vehicles....

My '71 F-Head is stock except for a Solex replacement carb. and 4.27 gears.
The last time I checked, I got in the mid-high 17 MPG range.
If I do the math with the tire size (33's give approx. a 7.25% difference), it calculates out to a low 18.

    The Solex HAS to help.
Small venturi carb. with a much more efficient metering circuit than the old Carter.

I am about ready for another fill-up.
When I do, I'll post my latest figures.

I have about the same setup on my 65 (Solex, Pertronix ignition) but with 30" tires. I get about 17 all the time too.

Personally, I think mid-high teens in such an "aerodynamically-challenged" antique rig is pretty good!
Heck, we were LUCKY to get mid-high teens in our 4 and 6 cylinder late-model Wranglers!

LOL!! That's too funny. What's a gallon of gatorade run these days?

Thanks to everyone else for the replies...Sounds like mid teens are pretty common. Not too bad really, for technology that old. Anyone know the going rate for a Solex carb? Do they work with the stock linkage?
    Thanks!

    I'm thrilled with my Solex.
    Stock linkage fits great.
Choke works GREAT in cold weather.
Only two settings on the carb. (idle mixture and idle speed).

    I got mine at Quadratec.
They had the best price I found.
Here's a link to their listing for it:

I purchased my Solex from krage http://www.jeepdoc.com/ just a couple weeks ago, excellent turn around, and only cost me about $117.00 plus freight of $28.00. (I wanted it quicker) Well worth the time and money. It was a direct bolt on. Also many thanx to those who steered me on their direction.:)

Sounds like I might add one of these to my wish list. I don't think I've seen a bad review of one yet. I can always throw the old Carter on a shelf if I ever want to make it completely stock again.

This is cheap, but unfortunately, I had already done my purchasing. I will definitely shop around. I usually shop with those retailers who have a good rep. I will have to try out Quadratec in the future.

LOTS of folks, including Quadratec and Krage sell it set up for the F134.
You're right, the choke cable does take a severe bend due to it's new location on the Solex carb..
But I've never had a problem with my choke operation, though.

I come across this too, I installed a cable clamp on the back valve cover bolt to handle the stress of the bend, and my cable moves freely.
