Heres the deal. When I purchased my 71 with the V6 It ran ok but needed a tune-up. The carb screws were really loose especially on the top they were about an 1/8" loose. I tightened all the screws, replaced the plugs and wires and the distributor from the Prestolite to the Delco. After doing that it seemed to run great but rich enough to where it will burn your eyes after ideling for a while and more when cracking the throttle. I decided to rebuild the carb and jet it down still no change. I put the old distributor back in and still no change. I also pulled the intake and cleaned it and also installed valve stem seals. I replaced all the vacume hoses and have played with the idle mixture and the timing. Could it be the new wires? I'm at a loss here any help would be appreciated.

Don't forget to check for excess presure from the fuel pump. Is the float at the right height? Air cleaner clogged? Float needle and seat set right, damaged? Perhaps all that loosess allow additional air in to compensate for the excess fuel. Try substituting another carb. You'll find the problem.
