to go in and out of four high, kinda load up on the lever, then let up on the gas a little and shift at the same time. do it this way for going in or out, and this can be done at any speed ( just make sure your hubs are locked in or it dont work)

going into low range you will find that anything above stoped or just nudging it any direction will result in lots of that real cool espreso machine sound comming from your t-caseR) to get out of low range can be tough sometimes. you may have to back up a ways while jerking on the leaver, may have to curse at the same time to make this work.

IMO the OEM shifting on the D20 for '75 works really well. If things are tough, you might want to go through the linkage and inspect/lubricate and replace any obviously worn parts. There's a lot of normal loosness in these parts, so don't worry about that.

In and out of 2HI and 4HI should be just pulling/pushing on the lever at any speed. A passenger can help, since you may not want to duck below the windshield to move the lever. Back off on the throttle a little while shifting, just to give the gears some slack.

Shifting into 4LO must be done stationary or moving VERY slowly. Moving at a baby crawl is ok, and you may get a little gear clash (a crunch) but it won't hurt anything. Clutch in, no gas, optional baby crawl, shift in. Out is about the same, though you may not want the baby crawl ...
