Is the 74 stock ignition (distributor) of Ford descent? If so that would explain why IT WON'T START IN THE RAIN!!!!!!!!

I have a poor seal between the windshield, dash and firewall. It has finally stopped raining in Santa Cruz so i have put the problem on the back burner for now but...
well it could be a contributer to your problem.

74 was still points right? gm style iirc. moist and points, not a good combo (flame away). best bet is to go hei.

I don't mind the points that much. Are you sure it is GM? It has a separate coil I did not think GM did that. But maybe for points they did.

Could be Prestolite, Motorcraft or Delco. The Delco points distributors all have a window in the distributor cap to adjust the points with an Allen driver (or hex key) AFAIK. I would guess Prestolite, but I don't know for sure - never owned a 258 with points ignition. It might say somewhere in the FSM... I'm looking in the online '72 FSM, but it's slooow.

My 73 has stock Delco point dist. (no window, like the old Chevy 6 cyl cars) Points (Delco D108P) fit Jeep, Chevy and 70's Harley Davidson big twins.

Yeah ok mine has a blue cap with no window for adjustment. I have to pull the cap and turn the motor over while adjusting the dwell. Who makes prestolite?
