I'm currently restoring a 1967 CJ5 to OEM spec's. This Jeep has a Ramsey winch that runs off a PTO mounted to the Transmission. It looks factory mounted but I cant find any documentation regarding Jeep offering this. Any info on this?

I don't believe the factory ever installed that stuff. It was all dealer installed.

X2...tops were dealer installed, as well as all accessories - I'd bet even the PTO.

The factory did install the Capstan winches on the 2A as I have a picture of one sitting in front of the factory. They also installed the Spicer pto at the factory as well as the drum belt pulley and governors and back seats too. The lifts were factory also. If it was in the parts manual the factory installed it. If in a Willys/Kaiser/Jeep Approved accessories manual, like Pto's from Ramsey, King, Braden and Koenig, they were dealer installed. Plows were dealer.

I'm pretty sure if a customer ordered one with certain equipment it came that way from the factory. But normally dealers just ordered bare bones Jeeps since who knew what a customer would want.

Seriously though, mine came w/ a factory hardtop, Jeep(trademark) Special Equipment, Manufactured by Orrville Products, Inc. SN 131-58883. One thing though, it has the AMC logo, but its a Kaiser Jeep.:v6:

    Pete an early '70?

Possible that it was on the dealers lot after the takeover by AMC and a dealer put it on?

You could order the Meyer cabs from the factory. The dealership I worked at never did because that would limit the buyers for a specific Jeep. I have seen customer's Jeeps with factory installed hard tops; the factory would delete the windshield catches when they installed a top, and replace them with plates. Otherwise, there's no difference in the top (other than fit & finish - dealerships were better). If your top has catches, I would say that it's dealer installed.

My grandfather ordered it w/ both the hardtop and a soft top still boxed. It was purchased from Arnold Wiebe GMC/Opel/Buick/Pontiac/Jeep in Visalia, CA (still has the license plate holder on it). He ran the soft top in the summer and since we deer hunted up in Kings Canyon in the fall and winter, he put the hard top on it then. It still had the windshield clamps on it. I remember the purchase but I don't recall about the dealer and the AMC part. May have been in the process of changing over?:v6:

AMC bought Kaiser sometime in 1970 that's why I was asking when Pete was built. If it was after that it would make perfect sense. I thought since you said it was a Kaiser it was built in late 1969 maybe but set on the lot until mid '70 or so and the dealer installed a top after the AMC buyout.

Doesn't have to be dealer installed ... I installed the Meyer cab on my CJ-6 to save a few dollars. The top comes with instructions and it can be installed in the owner's driveway. Jeep was purchased by AMC in 1970, so Meyer may have started applying the logo immediately. I think it would be difficult or impossible to know the exact series of events unless you were there at the time.

I was there at the time. We saw it arrive on the truck. It was built in March 1970 (Data plate). I'm a little fuzzy on the arrival date. I was only 9 at the time.:v6:

You wouldn't happen to be able to post pics of your winch and routing of the PTO shaft could you? I have the PTO on my 66' but have never seen any pics of how the shaft runs to the front. Thanks
