I know this has been talked to death but here it goes anyway. If you go with the AFI marine waterproof 12 volt wiper unit , it looks to me there would be a good amount of space between the motor and the windshield inside. What do you use to fill or what type of spacers?

I've seen those motors also...the shaft looks like it's about 4 inches long. If you dig through the JCWhitney catalog, you can find the same motors with different length shafts on them. I got mine with something like a one inch shaft (can't remember for sure, it's been a couple years) and I didn't need to space it at all.

Might take a few minutes to see if you could disassemble it to cut down the shaft. I did that on one of the cheapie 12V units that 4WD sells.

Not that it was worth it....

keep your eyes open for these Jeep factory 2 speed 12v motors.
not used on flatties, but adapt very easily; large shaft hole in frame has to be enlarged slightly, the other mounting hole lines up perfectly; you only use one hole, so fill the other with the same style bolt/nut as I did.
can't recall if they were top or bottom mounted originally
they show up on ebay frequently

I used a piece of 3/4" thick pine for each one. Cut to an appropriate size, corners rounded off & painted the windshield colour they look like they belong there-

If you look hard (thats the point :) ) you can see the driver's side one in this pic-

They also do a nice job of sealing the vacuum moter mounting holes.

Actually, since I'm converting back to vacuum wipers you can have mine if you want :).

    jpflat2a,

Is that a 2 wire wiper motor or 3 wire? I like the setup. Do you know more specifically what it is out of? What kind of switch did you hook it to?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    best I can recall is 66 67 68 69ish CJ5 with ventilating windshield
    they were top mounts originally
they are a 3 wire, 2 speed motor
I have them wired on the factory switch of the same era, no park function
because they operate independently, they can/will clash once in a while when they meet in the center
    no big deal to me
I also wait until they are timed to one side and then shut them off
they are/were made by American Bosch, model WWF according to stampings in the housings

I'm just funny that way

Actually I'm trying to get Tonka as close to stock as possible, well "10 Foot Stock" at least, plus the vacuum wipers hae a certain "cool" factor.

Actually those wiper motors that Jim shows in his pictures are available new from marine supply houses, here's one -

Even allowing for the the price being in Bucks Canuck they're $$$.

I found what you were talking about . Did a search and found a better price --now then --how long should the arm be and what size blades?

Hmmmm- I used to know that-

FWIW the stock arm is about 9 1/2" long. I'd just copy whatever you have on there right now-

One thing to watch on those moters is that they come in different "sweeps", either 90 or 120 degrees IIRC. I think I figured out way back when that on a jeep you need 90 but you should sit down with your windshield, split a beer with it & ask it waht it wants :).
