    Hello,
This is my first post here, these cj5's are a bit new for me as I deal mostly in cj2a's over at www.thecj2apage.com

I've got a chance to buy a 60 cj5 mostly original w/plow and hard top.
The outside body is good but the floors are gone and the engine has a slight knock, seats aren't original. But it runs and drives and the plow works,

Oh i'm also up in the northeast that makes a big difference.

I'm looking for a rough idea as what to offer, Whats the going rate on and off eBay.

    Thanks, Matt

    $1,500

Seriously...it's hard to tell from the description. Could be anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000

Oh heck no ... not in the northeast. Much less, unless it's really nice. JMO.

Bill is right, make him pay you for hauling the trash from his yard! Sounds like a typical NE bag of *#@& Jeep. Are you prepared and able to do the body work and rebuild of the motor (or have a few thou floating around for somebody else to do it)? You can spend more upfront on a decent unit to begin or a lot more later fixing your bargain. But what the heck -- maybe you are like most of us and enjoy repeatedly smashing your head against a wall ....

But if it isn't a basket case it won't be nearly as much fun fixing up. :D

Ok I'm just back but forgot to take photos.

    It's actually a 1956 CJ5 w/original motor that runs but needs help.
    the original items include:
    drive line
passenger seat frame and covers in good condition
    oil filter
    air cleaner
    carb.
    rad.
    hood, fenders, tailgate
    spare tire mount
    windshiel frame
drivers vacuum and passengers manual wipers
15" rims (nice) w/dry rotted tires
    axles
mint frame and front frame horns (no plow damage)
    nice speedo
    moarch plow pump

    now the bad,
front and rear floors are missing or in very bad shape
slight rust on tub, tailgate and fenders w/small dings and a couple light dents
motor runs like crap (but it runs)
    no brakes (not surprising)
    front springs flat
    radio hole in dash
    passenger seat frame butchered.

    Now how much????????????????

I would look at it from the other end, whats it worth when your done fixing it up. Lets use Duke54's JEEP for an example. If I remember he had it for sale here for $6k. The question is what can you buy the parts needed to make it that nice for? You can research it pretty easy these days on the net. Do you value your time? After this research simply subtract the numbers you came up with and thats what the JEEP is worth. If its a negative number or the current owner laughs at your offer I would buy one already restored, as theres a lot of nice ones starting to show up. BTW if your like me the fun of restoreing/working on these old JEEP's is worth something so I would factor that in in my decision, of course my motto is buy high sell low. YMMV. :)Mike

My first reaction was -- "sounds like a $500 Jeep to me"...

Needs body work...a motor rebuild... brake rebuild/upgrade... probably steering gone through and knuckles rebuilt... probably a D18 rebuilt ....

I agree with the $500 figure. But I also go by what I want, and cost is a small part of the equation. We all know we'll never get back what we spent so I ignore that part. :hurrican:

Yeah, I would say from zero to a few hundred too. Realistically, pay what makes you and the seller happy. Considering how much work this Jeep needs, the purchase price will be irrelevant by the time it's on the road.

Most old cars in the northeast have severe rust, and that (by association) affects overall value.

He was asking $500 an I offered him $250 as I really didn't want the Jeep and I'd just resell it to help pay for other project.

I haven't got an answer back from him.

I'd tell him it was only good for parts...I'm in Western New York and I've got a 1954 m38a1 I'd like to sell. It has a very solid body, front needs seat canvas. I was driving it in 91, everything worked and it passed NY inpection. Then like an idiot, I changed the t-stat and put straight water in.
It sat over the winter and low and behold it's got a crack in the head. I have a replacement head. I also have a full Beachwood Canvas winter enclosure for it. The tops been stored inside and is in excellent shape. Just thought I'd mention mine, I'm open to offers.

I live in Ma, I picked up a 57 cj5 with a great orignal body, working drivetrain, power steering, an amazing job on roll cage and bumpers, very smooth 225 that should be working soon, only problem is snapped clutch cable, snapped parking brake cable, snapped bracket for the shackle, engine is not getting a spark, needs windshield wipers and side mirror to pass inpection. $600. I think I robbed the guy
