After much agonizing I have decided that the old 2G has seen its last days. I am currently deciding if I should go with a good rebuilt 2G or go with a 2100 :? . Mine is past repairable (I have cleaned and "rebuilt" it too many times to count), after 40 years the ball seats are bad, and someone has drilled and epoxied the body, fuel dribbles out the mains and acc pump, etc......

So I was wondering if anyone who had gone the 2100 route had a picture or two of it on a :v6: ? I didn't see any pictures in the carb threads in the tech forum, or in the garage pics area either (did find one on a 304).

    Quick update

I ended up ordering a Holley 2300 (350 cfm) with adapter, air filter, and electric choke from summit (about $300). I'll let you know how it installs and works when it arrives.
I got the Holley because I didn't want to fight with another 40 year old 2G or a 20 year old Motorcraft 2100 (rebuilt one is $ enought I went with a brand spanking new Holley)
This is pretty much the first "new" part I have put on this jeep except for items like plugs, wires, oil, filters, and other consumable items. It feels kinda weird. R)

For those thinking of a carb swap here are my reasons for going the way I did.

    All new parts
Easy to buy jets/other parts for it
    Electric choke kit
Good reviews by those on here that use it
Not much more $ than a good rebuilt 2100

    Just for the record -

Motorcraft uses the same jets as the holley
    mine has an electric choke
I got mine for ~$160 from autozone - it was a crappy rebuild but cheep.
I'm not sure autozone stocks them anymore - but they were part 6-289.
You'd need an adapter for the stock manifold.

By Request here are the part numbers I ordered:

    Carb HLY-0-7448
    Choke HLY-45-224
    Adapter TRD-2086
    Air cleaner SUM-G3000

I can't comment on how well these work together yet, but I will one of these days.

Motorcraft does NOT use the same jets as the Holley! I have several 2100 Motorcrafts and a few Holleys and I assure you the jets will not interchange. Holley tuning parts like jets, gaskets, needle & seats, etc. are easier to get individually than Motorcraft parts. Rebuild kits for the Motorcraft can be found at about any parts store but individual parts can be hard to come by. The 2100 has a good reputation for off road use but I believe a properly tuned Holley will do just as good.

I messed with two different 2100s on my M715; the one it came with and a completely rebuilt one. Never could get either one to work right and I tried all sorts of things to get them working. Mostly auto-choke and terrible mileage issues with both. I finally jettisoned both of those and got a new Holley 2300. I re-jetted that one for my high altitude here and tweaked the settings. It works way better than either 2100 ever did. Just my 2 cents worth.

    Holley 2300 update

    Update:

I installed the 2300 this weekend, went pretty well I had a heck of a time finding little things like fittings etc to clean up the plumbing etc. It runs much better than it did with the old beat up 2G.

I am verry happy with the carb so far (driven 2 miles, reason is the subject of another post).

    Notes about install:
The throttle arm is made out of hardened titanium, I couldn't get anything to drill though it (stamped from the factory). I found this because the air filter I used has a little too much drop on the base and the throttle lever hit it. I couldn't shorten the arm so I bought a generic air filter "adapter" and used the ring as a lift (1/2").

A 14" air cleaner barely fits..... It is about 3/8" from the firewall and not real far from the upper radiator hose. It should flow enough air though R)

 Just verified the holley jets don't fit the 2100. Which is a bummer cause I have a lot of holley jets. I was told by someone whom I thought knew what they were talking about that they would. Many apologies for the misinformation - thanks for setting this straight.

After some web browsing I've found that evidently the some of the older motorcrafts used Holley jets - but the newer (most of them including 70's and 80's) ones don't. Which is good cause I'd hate to think the old guy that told me they would is completely full of .... Anyhow - Motorcraft jets are available at a few places including:

    http://www.carburetion.com/ford2v.htm

Also - I read that Earl Parker (http://www.parkercarburetion.com/) sells them as well. (I've spoke with Earl before and he is a very knowedgable and helpful guy).

Again - sorry I misspoke in the first place.
