I'm wondering if there is a book available with step by step instructions for tearing down my engine. My CJ Rebuild manual that I have been using for everything else covers the 4cyl but only has a couple pages for the V6 rebuild. I'm looking for something similar to what is in the rebuild manual for 4cyl. Pictures help. I have the v6 performance book that was recommend but this doesn't get specific enough for me. Anyone know of a good book for this or maybe a website. Thanks

    Adam,
I found recently when I did mine was: you have to pay a machine shop to do the block and rebuild the heads; you have to buy the parts; and by that time considering special tools I needed to buy it was only a few hundred more to pay the machine shop to put it together. I am very capable of building a motor but if you can find someone who knows the 225 I think you will be time and aggravation ahead to let them rebuild it.
    my 2 cents,
    Gregg

So you recommend letting them put the whole engine together for me after I tear it apart. I'd really like to do some of the rebuild myself so I don't think that will work. If someone could recommend what should be done by the shop and what I should do myself that would be great. I want to have a feeling of accomplishment after it is done. Also could someone explain to me what it means when someone says "my block was bored .030 over". Thanks:)

The diameter of the cylinders was increased by 0.030" (30 thousandths) and oversize pistons were fitted. The cylinders wear to a taper (from top to bottom) and need to be machined back to cylindrical shape for like-new performance. Typically there is enough iron in the block for two or 3 overbores; ie 0 (new), 20 or 30, 40 or 50 or 60, and maybe larger. The amount of overbore depends on the availablility of oversize pistons, the amount of wear, and the original thickness of the cylinder wall (depends on the engine).

You could let them assemble the rotating assembly ie:crank, rods and pistons. then you could install the rest of the parts.

I had mine done by shop, 30 over, crank turned, heads reworked with new valves, seats&guides because of fuel these days but everything new then they short blocked for me and I did the rest. so basiclly got block back all set up with new parts in heads and put it all together it was well worth it. Sparky is right on the manual I picked up a "53-71" service manual it helped with the rest. good luck
