OK, so last night I went out and bought this beutiful Jeep (or Willy's) CJ-5 from a junk collector. My wife presently thinks its a bucket O bolts....but hopefully she will be in better mood when we tow it in the yard.

Anyway back to my question. The junk guy thinks its around a 65. It has a Buick V-6 engine, standard trans and pto winch (on the rear ?) I really want to know what year it is. the plate from the firewall says this only -

    Kaiser Jeep Corporation
    Toledo, Ohio

    Serial # 8305 ___ C16 ____216465

Does anyone know where I can go to find out the year ?

    Thanks

    Jeff

    Welcome from W. Mi!

You go here. ;) I don't know the answer, but someone will be along shortly who does.

In the meantime, just a warning, we like pics! :D Get used the the phrase "UWOP - useless without pictures." You'll probably hear it once or twice in this thread alone. ;)

    Oh yeah, and if it's 1965, it's not a Willys, it's a Kaiser. ;)

    (66 Kaiser here).

Thanks, as soon as I get it home I'll take some pics. Whats wierd is the side says Jeep, under the hood says Kaiser Jeep Corp, and the tailgate says Willy's along with the metal on the doors of the half cab...The more I read the more I wonder if its 2 different years....

    WOW... Thanks

    JAS

Not at all unusual, happens all the time with these things. In fact, around here its rare to find a Jeep that's all original! R) Mine's currently part 66, part 67, and soon to be part who knows what (buying a new body). Oh yeah and my tailgate is a 70-something.

We tend not to worry too much about actual years around here. ;)

My '71 has parts of a '71, a '76 and an unknown early 5 in it...

BTW, welcome. I'd check the VIN thread in the tech forum, where I'm moving this thread as well. That should help you narrow it down.

    Thanks Folks.

Were is a good place to get parts for these emgines. I stopped at the local parts house this morning to get fresh plugs and totally confused him when i tried to explain what i was looking for. I assume the 225 was a jeep product ? they shouldn't have to look under buick correct ?

Gotta love some of these parts places... As for catalogs.. I want a full rebuild kit for the engine, any good places to get this reasonable ?

    BTW...

JAS, you've got yourself a great Jeep there!!! I just took a gander at your prize. That hardtop is one of the rarest I've seen (which may mean very little, lol).

My 2 cents, ...I had great success with AutoZone's Master Rebuild kit for around $350.

    Looks good Jeff :)
Let us know as you come up with questions... like the driver's side exhaust manifold pointing forward... that was done by the factory to allow clearance for the Ross steering box :)
Lots of us replace that manifold with a rear-dump unit from a Buick 231, or headers, when we upgrade the steering to Saginaw power ;)

Ditto, I ran Tellico last May with a fresh Autozone rebuild kit in my motor, I drove the Jeep 185 miles to Tellico and then wheeled it on friday and saturday and then drove home on sunday, my motor had 26 miles on it when I left for Tellico and virtually everything on it was new or rebuilt but the body itself. Good kit and for the price unbeatable!;)
