Does anyone here have the Affordable FInjection Tbi kit on their odd-fire 225? I have read lots of info about fuel injection on the odd-fire and most say you can not make it work. AFI told me they could do it if I run their crank trigger and use a HEI ignition. If anyone can give me some feedback it would be much appreciated. Thanks...

I looked into it at one point but for the price figured I could pay for a complete 4.3 TBI swap.

There are a couple of members here that are upgrading to the Megasquirt EFI for the OF V6. Search for "megasquirt."

Megasquirt is great alot to learn but great I have a 71 225 running on it now.
There is alot of adavancements coming in megasquirt maybe sooner or later you will be able to run spark control on an oddfire some day .
I only have around 450 bucks in my system and it runs well will run even better after I install a new set of lifter in it I used junkyard parts so it kept the cost down.
Checkout www.msefi.com there is a wealth of info there dont be intimidated there is alot to know but you can learn as you go.

After putting the $ numbers on paper, I think I may just put the Gen3 Vortec 5.3 I have in it. I was going to have to build the 225 and the 5.3 has less than 18k miles so I am leaning that way. It will be a tight fit, but, I know it can be done. Thanks...

I have a Vortec 5.3 in my Silverado, and it flies. That oughta make a CJ scoot right along! How much different is it from a regular Chevy smallblock? Mounts, etc. I've never seen one out of a vehicle. 5.3 is about 325 cu.in. isn't it?

The 5.3 Vortec is awesome. I have one in my Sierra, and it pulls great. But I love my 225

I had a quote from a guy once for a tune port set up for around 1500 dollars plus the machining to modify the current intake to work with injectors never did. I have looked off and on about a tbi setup but haven't got too far into it yet. Thought about doing it as a graduate project for school but who knows at this moment got too many projects lol

Here is a very basic brief overview of what I have done.
I used junkyard parts from an '85 park avenue. Had to use the 231 heads. (there is an article about swapping them in the tech section. The manifold from the park ave bolts right up. (You'll know if it's the right one as it was the only year that Buick used fuel injection that had an HEI distributor)

There are a couple of routes to make the distributor work right and I am still experimenting with two.

One is to use an odd fire distributor with the standard mechanical and centrifigal advance. (You will want to tune it to mimic what the computer wants to see. May take some tweaking.) With this setup you also use a magnetic pickup on the crank to send the proper pulses to the computer. The down side is the ignition system is not advanced by the computer. But, these early computers were very basic and not all that complicated.

Two -is to use the stock distributor from the Buick with an odd fire pick up and cap to fire the motor. The odd fire signal then has to be modified to "look" like and even fire to the computer. It's really a simple circuit that takes the three cylinders that fire the same as an even fire and makes them look like six to the ECU.

The worst part is the fact that the intake points directly into the firewall. I have seen guys cut a hole and run the intake into the cab and back out to a filter under the hood. I opted to notch my firewall for clearance.

It runs great!, But I have alot to do before it is road worthy yet.

    Hope this helps.
