What is the difference between a Dana 25 and a Dana 27 front end? I have a '56 CJ5 and I believe it has a Dana 25. I just bought a set a of axles off a '59 and was told they were 27 front and 44 rear. Are a 25 and 27 interchangable?

    thanks :stout:

    Thanks.

    Looks like they are interchangable.

  3. The axles themselves are. Most parts except the ring and pinion / carrier assembly are as well I think.

the 27 should have a larger diameter axle shaft vs. 25. Also some 27's have the 8 bolt carrier as well. (must be early ones).

Hmm...I was under the impression that from the pumpkin out (including axle shafts) D25 and D27 parts interchange.

Some early 27's definetly had 8 ring gear bolts. But in my experiences, the axle shaft diameters is the same between a 25 or a 27.

There's a ton of threads out there about 25/27 differences. A quick search will get you all the information you need.
