Seat mounting bracket backer plate - Anybody?

    Hi All,

Just picked up a rear seat for my CJ and was wondering, how thick a backer plate should I put under the tub to keep the bolts from pullin through in an accident? 1/8", 3/16" 1/4"?? Was planning on gettin a 4"x12"X?? plate to cut in half. Also, would the same work for the rear belts? The tub has no mounting holes currently.

    Thanks in advance,

    DonC

Here's my opinion. In an accident, your body is held in the vehicle by the seatbelts, not the seats. So you could probably get by without a backer plate for the seat bolts. I would use a 1/8 inch thick backer for the seat belts, the 1/8 inch plate might bend a little in an accident, but i think it would rip out the surrounding sheetmetal way before a bolt ever pulled through it.
