Im putting a clutch on my 73 Cj5 which has been pieced together by a previous owner. One thing which I can't figure out is if there is suppose to be a clip or a retainer that holds the fork to the throwout bearing. Without anything the fork just seems like it wants to fall off the bearing after it moves a few times. I got a new fork from 4wd.com thinking it may come with one but it didn't.

Do I need one, if so where can I get this at???

Thanks and appreciate any help guys......

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I think both the I6 and V8 forks just have two "nubs" that fit into the collar of the t/o bearing; no clip used like on V6
if that's what you are asking

My '74 w/ L6 232 pivots on the bellhousing & the "nubs" run along the groove in then throwout bearing. The fork nubs mst be free to shift in the TO Bearing groove as it pivots on the bellhousing & moves the TO Bearing.

My 75 w/304 has a spring inside the bellhousing that holds the fork to the bell housing stud. Bugger to change. I used a little grease on the ball to hold it in, then attached the spring. I've got an etra housing I can take pics of if you need them, walt
