This morning, I rolled my '69 225 out of the garage as usual and when I turned the key, it acted just like "bumping the starter", then nothing. When I turned the key again, nothing happened, only the amp and oil warning lights were lit. Also, the headlights won't come on...any thoughts? Any thing will be greatly appreciated...July 4th weekend and no Jeepin :(

i'd check for loose/disconnected ground wires and/or broken wires.

I'd check the power coming from the switch to the starter solinoid. Might have bumped something loose. Specially if its the original switch. Is the solinoid new too? if it is, I'd definatly trace down where you have power. Only so many spots it can be.

    Try jumping first ;)

Usual suspects - battery cable clamps and battery if the headlights don't light. If you had headlights, I'd look at hte starter solenoid first.

If you have dash lamps but no headlights, I’d suspect first the battery, then the battery terminals. If you have a voltmeter, it’s easy to figure out what’s up. Turn on the headlights and measure voltage right on the center of the battery posts, and then on the battery terminals. If voltage on the posts drops with the headlights, the battery is discharged or no good. If voltage on the posts is OK, but still no lamps, look at voltage on the terminals. If a post has good voltage, but its terminal reads low, clean or replace the terminal.

    no
ballast resistor only reduces the voltage to the points
engine would still crank over if ballast no good

I bet it is the battery. Last summer in the morning my DD started great a few times, in the afternoon when I had to go home from work the battery was dead, it did not have enough juice to even light up my CD player.

Mystery is over!! I did jump and it started...let it run awhile and turned it off...did the same thing, nothing when I turned the key over...I took the battery to a local shop and discovered that one cell was dead...checked the alternator and it's putting out fine...replaced the battery and the 4th is saved!! Back in the Jeepn business!! Thanks for all the thoughts!! KCJ
