I've got to replace my alternator for something bigger. Every time I turn on anything electrical from my lights to the electrical cooling fan the needle on my volt gauge heads south. I don't have much skill in this area and rewiring takes time, patients and determination to see it through.
I came across this website:www.madelectrical.com. I not sure how I found it. It may have been a link from here. It is very informative. When I talked to the owner him on the phone he was very generous with information regarding repairs, up grades or rewiring an electical system from scratch. Does anyone have an experience with the information and products he offers?

I replaced my original Mototrola unit with an AC Delco one that cranks 160 Amps out if need be. It has an internal voltage regulatora eliminating the need for the external fender mounted unit. There really wasn't any additional electrical work needed just a couple of tweeks to two wires and it mounted right into the original mount.

I got the unit from Broadway electric in San Diego, CA because it is local to me but I'm pretty sure you could find one most auto electric shops. AND to boot my voltage usually runs about 12 unless theres more need and then it cranks right up to the 14.4....if I remeber right which is supposed to be the max usual amount of juice. Prior to replaceing the unit I burned out a couple sets of points out running lights and stereo etc. SINCE I haven't had any problems running electrical accessories and the points have been fine.

Uh, (beating the dead horse) I use the 100 amp single wire delco from Summit/ Jegs. It charges 14 most times, but down to 13v with headlights, heater fan, KC's, etc. I deleted all of the factory wiring, and made a new 10 ga. fine strand charge wire down to the + on the solonoid.... HTH, but there are many opinions on this.. You might try the search feature on the forum....

If its power you need, check out these guys if you want more than stock from a parts store.

    http://www.alternatorparts.com/

They have alternators with dual rectifiers and huge heat sinks that will crank out lots of amps or more mild ones if you want.
