Anybody Have Experience With High-perf. Water Pumps On A 225?

    A 5 blade fan and a homemade fan shroud solved my hot running 225. I recently spent 5 hot days crawling through the UT desert in low range and temp stayed right at 180.

    I bought one for my build but am not yet ready to rebuild the engine.

    so I too would like to know before putting it on or reverting to the standard pump! :(

    A good fan and shroud spaced properly for the fan should be good enough for the rubicon. A six blade fan and a good shroud with a stock style water pump have seemed to fix my running hot issues

    I’m running the FlowKooler and do notice a 7-10 degree difference over the original pump at crawling speed. I’m dealing with other heating issues.

    I s'pose I'll do a shroud for now and get a pump if i find that I need one this summer.

    The shroud made all the difference for me. I bought a universal aluminum one from speedway motors and cut it to fit.

    I have installed two different Flow Kooler pumps. Neither of them made any difference whatsoever temp wise. I think they actually pulled the water through the radiator too fast to cool it. As mentioned above, the single biggest cooling factor in an old Jeep is the fan shroud. Increase the airflow around the radiator tubes and you will most likely improve your cooling.

    Get a fan shroud.
    The number one cause of otherwise healthy engines overheating is the shade tree mechanic that decided the fan shroud was not necessary.
    A stock water pump is just fine for a dauntless, it is likley that you will run warmer with a high flow water pump as the water does not spend enough time in the radiator to thermal transfer heat. The water also needs to spend enough time in the engine to absorb the engine heat.
    This is why even industrial engines, AKA engines that do not need to produce hot water for vehicle heat, still have either thermostats or restrictors in them to slow the water flow down.
    Simply slapping a higher flow water pump on an engine is never going to be a fix all solution to overheating.
    The stock dauntless water pump is the same pump that was used on the Buick 350..... if a V8 didn't overheat with that water pump, then you V6 already has more than enough pump.
