What Did You Do To Your Jeep Today?

I checked Dutchman's site and they do appear to be a little cheaper. The order sheets look easier to navigate and they seem
to offer more. You can get the seal surface position, length, diameter, and c-clips on the order sheet for the full float axles.These
are offered in 4340 with an option of HY-Tuf steel. The flanged axles appear to come in 4130 steel with a press on style bearing
and a variety of stud lengths on the stock replacement axles. The Dana flanged floating axles look to be more difficult to order
in the Dana 44 configuration and need the seal surface. This would probably require calling them or using the special seal as
Kyle had suggested.

 

1967CJ5A came by and we worked on the M38A1's all day on Sat. New tie rod ends on the 53 and did the alignment. Turned out the new wires I made for the distributor were too big and got pinched by the distributor cap and arced out. Adjusted the carb and worked on eliminating the Death Wobble. Now rides really well. Repacked the steering knuckles and adjusted the shims to tighten up the knuckles and ordered new kingpin bearings and races. Front end all lubed up. Cleaned and re-assembled the YS 650 carb on the 64 and got it idling and running better.

Worked out there in the shop until 11:00 PM. Wow! is it good to have reliable, well running Jeeps.

Put JEEP decals on the sides of the jeep. These came from Graphic Express. I think Scott (@Buildflycrash ) used these same decals but I couldn't find the thread where he posted it.

The instructions for their decals are written for large decals like you would put on the side of a GT350 etc, so their written process is more complicated than required for these little letters. I can't post a picture of those instructions because they are copyrighted.

Mix 1 tablespoon of Dawn into 1 gallon of water (that is the ratio). I did 1/4 tablespoon to 1 quart and put into a clean spray bottle. This is for wetting the surfaces and releasing the decal.

Clean the body thoroughly with naptha (aka white gas aka Coleman camp fuel) to remove wax, silicon etc. If you have cheap paint like I do it will remove a little paint too:


Cut out the letter, this makes alignment easier - thanks Scott for that tip! Remove the heavy backing paper (on the underside) leave the application paper in place for now (the part you can see through).


Spray the surface with the dawn solution, soak the decal for a couple minutes to start the releasing of the application paper, then put the decal in position and press it in place to get the bubbles out.


Peel off the application paper carefully:


Repeat with the other letters:


Make sure all the air is out and remove the excess water. I used an old towel, not a squeegee.


Done! And I am about as far from being any type of artist as there is, so if I can do it anybody can. It is like putting decals on a model airplane kit but easier because these are thicker and don't tear so easily

 

I used those as well.
I left all four letters on the backing sheet and did a best fit overall on the logo.

I did the same. Just trimmed the edges off to the “JEEP” remained. The spacing was prefect.

Looks like a narrowed Dana 60 in your future or a built Ford 9”.

 

Drove the 64 M38A1 4 or 5 trips around the block just to keep it going.
Cranked the 53 and let it warm up.
Got the king pin bearings and races for the 53 and the wiper blades ordered for the 53.
Got a friend with a trailer and we are planning to take the 64 to the Denton Military Vehicle show in April. Should be fun.

Finally got in some shop time this weekend. The new rotisserie I built to really paying off. I cannot imagine replacing sheet metal without one.
