After doing a little research...I decided to use the megasuirt...I am so excited I will be able to use a fully controllable EFI on my oddfire. I sure hope it is as good as it sounds. Once I get mine down...I will help my father inlaw put one on his 46 CJ2A, its got the flathead on it.

I will keep everyone posted as I go through the process. I know what you mean...scrambling my brains. The reading is very indepth and draws from physics, electronic, and automotive basics. I think once gotten into though it won't be as hard as it sounds...It will take time though. I am giving myself roughly a year to complete the job. Then my father inlaws flat 4 should be a snap since I will have a good feel for the system. I will update this post as I make progress.

I like the "low tech" of my CJ5 and probably won't go to FI, but it is not my "hardcore" offroader. I have my 83 CJ for that, with a FI 4.0. After reading about it, I am seriously thinking of using the megasquirt on my carbed 454 Blazer. Looking forward to see how it works out for you.

I know it seems like an awful lot of information. Take it one step at a time. Get the parts and build the computer. Also make sure you get the stim as well. It will allow you to play with the computer on the bench and make sure everything is working correctly.

It took me about 8 hours to build the stim and the computer. But I am very methodical and wanted to be sure everythign was right. If you follow the build instructions (including testing when it says to) you will be fine. The biggest problem people have with the build is that they slap it all together and then something does not work and they get lost. Test while you build.

Once its built I would suggest getting the relay board to help wire it all up. Its not needed but it sure makes life a lot easier.

The manual is very detailed in the process for getting it started and tunning. Again follow it step by step. The most important part is you need a laptop to take with you so you can log your drives to help you adjust the fuel tables.

    http://www.hudsonhawk.net/jeep/fuel.htm

This link has some pics of my wiring. I know yours will be different. If you have not found it yet. The Megasquirt Forums are at http://www.msefi.com

These guys will help you out with anything that you need. But make sure you read the manual first. They get picky when people ask questions that the answers are readily available in the manual.

And I will be more then glad to help if I can. I just converted from MS-I to MS-II to get IAC control on my GM TBI. So far its working great. But I need to find time to do some more data logs to dial in the VE table (fuel map).

What is the basic cost that you gotten into the FI?? I know it is cheaper than the kits available. I know i will get new parts and not junkyard peices.

Junkyard GM TB, new Holley injectors, stimulator, MS II, relay board, fuel pump and all new sensors. Total is around $700 including the wire and connectors I used to build the custom harness.

I did not include the cost of the fuel cell as you dont have to use one.

Thanks! I got to looking at it to see what they required. Got confused when they said they were selling "partial kits" for the computer and such, but i guess that just meant they didnt assemble it. Are the throttle bodies all the same and the injectors differnt? I know i should ask on their forums. I was going to get the Throttle body off a chevy 4.3 V6 since it is close to the size of my 4.1L V6.

Way cewl! Now that sounds like fun! Must study! It would be OK for the track and around town. My only worry is about what to do when you're out deep in the sticks and the thing goes south. As if you'll have an oscilloscope, laptop and complier handy...

The throttle bodies on the 4.3 and the 5.7 (350) are the same. They have different injectors.

I have put 700 miles on mine mostly off-road (including Moab). The only time I have had a problem is when my Relay board cable accidently pulled out. It was no big deal. I reseated the cable and tightened the screws down. It started right back up and runs fine.

oh i will be assembling it myself, got plenty of help to get that done. just didnt like the "partial" description. if they just had it as unassmbled kit it would be better decripted. I will have to get my motor working better before i start the megasquirt, i know it still wont run right with it.
