Renegade color post yesterday got me thinking about my 71.
has anyone ever seen a lime green 71 with 999 code that wasn’t a renegade?
    thanks

I knew a girl in high school who drove a 71 lime green renegade with white factory 8 inch KH wheels. Our school colors were green and white. That Renegade was in the homecoming parade every year. The only lime green jeep I ever saw. And the prettiest girl I had ever known.

I’m pretty sure the “999” paint code was strictly for the Renegades, but covered all 4 or 5 colors.

    lime green with 999/340 tag
    no evidence of hood stripes
    no ballast resistor
    no oil pan skid plate
has rear storage boxes on it but no other holes in rear body for rear tire carrier
factory oil and amp gauge holes in dash
    factory roll bar with pad
    no dash pad
    wish it could talk

Are the dash pad mounting holes there?
Is there a black paint capital "R" stamped inside the lower left cowl (near the floor)?

Any evidence of a repaint on the hood? Maybe it was and they didn't replace the stripes?????

FWIW: The stripes were decals and the hood blister was paint.
Even if the paint faded or peeled, there's often evidence of it on the underside of the hood at the front.

Check for Renegade features on the chassis. There may be plating of the frame at the spring perches, boxing a small section of the C-channel. Other Renegade frame features from the experts?
The 999 paint code, gauges, and lime color lead me to favor that you have a Renegade. Do the gauge holes in the dash have a small tab for aligning the actual gauges?

I don't have frame plating at the spring perches...never heard of that(?)
The short frame boxing at the forward 'rear spring' perches is accurate. The front frame should be boxed from the grill support back to the rear 'front spring' perches.

The new model year was often introduced during the fall of the previous year just as it now. However it was often the practice, back then, to title a new vehicle in the year it was sold rather than its model year. For example, Willys introduced the new model 4T truck for 1947 in late 1946. So, while there was technically never a "1946 4T," since they were a "New for 1947" model year, I happen to own one. My "1947" Willys truck is titled as a 1946 because it was sold in late 1946.

So, while your build date is 1970, the JeeP likely sat on the lot until 1971 or was a late 1970 build date, like maybe December.

It's sort of confusing and I'm not that great at describing things. Hope it helps.

Tailgate: I thought the tailgate went away with Renegade II but I'm not that well versed on the subject. It has all been covered here in the past. If you haven't already, grab a pot of coffee and a comfy chair and hit the search function here. There is plenty to read.

There were some late Renegade Is built in late '70 as 1971 models. Still had tailgates, and the Renegade II style charcoal hood blister

Model year does not coincide with year of manufacture. Model year change over is usually around September, even back then.

    answering questions as posted
where would the holes for the dash pad be if there ever was one? i cant find any on the lower interior windshield frame.
i looked on the cowl and what is stamped there but what looks to be an ‘R’
no evidence of hood stripes. jeep is very original and i cant see any evidence of black paint or vinyl stripes
no boxing on rear springs but front is boxed as super dave described, “front frame should be boxed from the grill support back to the rear 'front spring' perches”
    13/12 spring packs
gauges have the small tab on them
i’ve gotten lost searched old renegade posts and always end up with more questions than answers
    its been fun though
    appreciate any feedback

    You found the "R"! (y)
Much of those other things could have been changed.
