With POR 15 one needs to spray an overcoat. Enamel would be good. Maybe the top spray needs to be refreshed once every 10 years? Sorry if I'm stating the obvious. :)

First engine run with no leaks. Started this project 12 years ago, 8 weeks ago I towed it to my home garage after not working on it for 11 years. 1974 CJ5 that I built a SBC 305 bored .030 over , RV cam , aluminum intake with small 4 barrel. I was very concerned about cam break in. After starting the motor 4 weeks ago all went well, until I noticed that antifreeze was leaking from back of intake. I removed intake, installed new gaskets. Today was somewhat mild so I ran the motor for about a half hour and no leaks. Moving on to finish boxing the frame. Thank you for letting me share. Happy New Year.

I started putting the snow plow on today...
Only started because I had 30min, one of the trailing arms is broken, there is now a Saginaw steering box in the way of the lift frame, and there is a cylinder head where the belt drive hydraulic pump wants to live.
    :banghead: :waiting:

Worked on my dad's CJ today, my son welded in a patch to repair the rust where the spare tire was. Always good to spend time with my dad and son :)

Just finished an incredibly long "might as well" winter list. At a couple points I was worried I'd be buried under "project creep" but somehow I was able to button this list up in just under 4 weeks:
    • Rear main seal replaced
    • New oil filter hoses
    • Cleaned out oil sump pickup
    • Repainted oil pan and timing cover
    • Oil pan gasket and new bolts
    • Timing cover gasket and bolts
    • Timing/crank shaft front seal
    • New single groove crank pulley
    • New water pump
    • New heater hoses
    • New radiator hoses
    • New brake master cyl heat shield
    • New tie rod ends
    • Rebuilt drag link
    • Rebuilt bell crank
    • Rebuild Ross steering box
    • New pitman arm
    • New shock bushings
    • New shackles
    • New U-bolts
    • Repainted shock plates
    • Repainted leaf springs
    • New exhaust downpipe gasket

In addition to the oil change, grease job, checking on the diffs etc. I had a blitz over the last few days. Couldn't pass up 70+ yesterday and 60 today.
While in spec for the directions my retractors were a pita with uneven pull on the shoulder belts and trying to saw holes through the seat slots. I got some heavy roll cage clamps, fabbed up a dom bar with some homemade brackets for the retractors. Much nicer with the straight pull IMG_20240112_114643532_HDR.jpg 12683.jpeg 12684.jpeg 12692.jpeg

Next up on the list, armor for the Rubicon trip. While it hasn't been an issue, I always knew my oil pan was exposed. Fabbed up a plate for it.

In the works is a reworked transmission skid to better protect my pto and a support bearing for my pto shaft. It's trying to develop a little banana.

Oil pan skid, I need to do that.
I see a big bolt on the front- what holds the rest in place?

I’ve already got a broken tab on the bell. Maybe I’ll try the stick-on version.

On my 4.3 I made the oil pan skid go up above the oil level and welded it there so any crack will leak only while running.

Awhile back I bought a NOS gauge cluster for my Commando to replace the inop stock unit. It came from Turkey, so it was in KPH. Today I replaced the gauge face so it'll be in MPH instead.

It'll be nice having a working speedo in the JC, I suppose next I should do something with the wildly inaccurate speedo in the CJ5.
