I have a 1975 jeep cj5 with a v8. My question is were hard tops made for this year of jeep. If so, why can't I find any. I see 72's and 76's and other years, just not 75.

Someone also told me that they thought that 69 through 75 were all the same as far as hard tops go.

I have no clue and hope somebody here can help me out.

Someone makes the fiberglass tops for the early CJ still (expensive IIRC), but the hard tops that were OEM at the time are no longer made. The same top fits the CJ-5 from 1955 to 1975. You can find used metal cabs pretty easily, although I'd suggest you think long and hard about a metal cab for an early CJ-5.

Why is that, I have never even seen one. Are they bad, leaky, a pain, what?

Heavy, make it more top heavy than it is. Probably very welcomed in winters that are really cold. Good heater and tight top is probably good in most places. Security is one of the few plusses I can attribute to an all metal top.

Well, those tops had definate good and bad points. What I don't want to deal with and why I am unloading mine:

1 - Storage. You have to have the room and a way to hang it and the doors, which I don't want to deal with.
2 - You need new seals every time you put it on. I have heard you can use RV/Camper strip seal, but I'm not sure. I found a kit online for $35 a pop.
3- I would not be able to install or remove the top myself. I like to be independant and this does not work for me. Also, I would need to use tools to do it. That is a pain. Much rather run a soft top.
4 - Drivability. Makes the Jeep very top heavy and easy for the wind to blow you around on the road, constant attention required.

You can look at mine... I have pics in both the for sale and wanted forums. The Meyers top I have made my Jeep uncomfortable to drive for me - felt like a stiff wind would tip it over. I can email you pics too if you want - mine is for a 55-75 so you could see what it looked like on and off the Jeep if that would help you.
