Worked on this cover today. Drilled and tapped 1/8NPT for full level hole. Tried installing it and found interference with the left side bearing cap. A little grinding on the cap and a little inside the cover made it fit just fine.

I saw this when it came out. Very detailed and made sense. He did 3 vids in the covers.

The higher fill hole is for rigs where the housing has to be rotated alot for driveline angles. I used to run those covers and have since donated them to Kyle. I just measured the recommended fluid capacity first then filled the diff.

I have seen that channel. He does some really odd stuff. No OSHA and other letter agencies in Russia.

I received the 1/8 NPT plug from Amazon the other day. Had tapped the hole a few days before. So I knew NPT is a tapered hole but apparently I tapped into the cover beyond the taper as the new plug never got tight and I screwed it in until it fell into the differential case.

Ordered 1/4” NPT tap and plug today. I’ll try again with both parts on hand to get the correct depth.

That'd be when I would go buy a female fitting and weld it in.

that is how I did mine....as I got close to the depth I wanted for the vent, I basically tapped it almost a turn at a time...its easy to tap NPT too deep. A plug (with socket type head) can go a bit too deep and still be functional, but for something like a vent, its a bit tedious. I also put some thread sealant on it when I put it in.

You just need 37 more layers of Teflon tape.

Seriously though, that's the exact sort of mistake I would make.

Problem is he was already tight to the bearing cap. Needs to weld that hole up and start over to do that.

Yes - I was lucky enough to get a heavy duty stock cover when I installed the ARB locker. It was much thicker than the one I originally had.

As suggested earlier I taped an NPT plug at the regular full level. Took a couple tries but I made the 1/4NPT plug fit nicely into the new Heavy cover. I’m not going to guarantee anything as it was still a challenge but it looks great.

The interweb said 7/16 hole for the tap I was using. I couldn’t get the tap to bite at all with that hole. Instead of going with a bigger hole I took a 1/2” fine thread tap and started some threads. The NPT tap got hold of that and I managed a good thread.

The cover is installed and will fill tomorrow after the RTV sets.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

I helped a friend add an overdrive to his Triumph TR4 transmission. When I got to his house he already had it on the bench and the top removed. Although, there was about an inch of oil in the bottom. I asked him why he didn't drain it all. He replied that he didn't drain the oil.

The benefit of adding the overdrive is that it won't operate when he gets even slightly low on oil.
