What is the advantage of that over a vent? My front diff had that setup when I bought it.

Keeping vents well above a possible water line is always a good plan.
If you never drive through deep water, it may not be necessary.

Get some Gunk degreaser and clean up the oil weeps. After its all clean and dry, take the Jeep for a mile or two drive, then check where the gear oil is weeping from. Yes, a clogged vent can force oil out as everything heats up from use.
While you’re under there, spin the jamb nut down to the clevis (and snug it) on your clutch release cable. Dab your fingers in some of that weeping gear oil and wipe those dry threads too. If you ever need to adjust the clutch layer, it will be nice to not have to battle dry rusty threads.

For one it is easy to do and it is something you will never have to think about again. Vents should never be submerged. Yes, I did both axles.

Awesome! I can wait to try this and see if it helps! It’s not often you get an easy fix for these kind of things. Ha ha. Pumped.

Ok I removed the breather vent and cleaned it out. There was alot of crud in there. I tried blowing through it with my mouth and it was mostly blocked. Not 100%, but more like 80%. Hopefully it makes a difference now! I have a 20mi drive to a car show on sunday so that'll be a good test.

Yep I did the remote breather on everything but the front axle. I say that they are IVs for gear oil...
    Some think it's a joke...

Did clearing the vents stop the oil migration?

Your second picture is of the reverse arm pivot shaft used on earlier T18's. It uses an O ring. It is staked in there with a roll pin and would be difficult to remove in the vehicle.

Thank you for reminding me to update! I just checked and after 50 miles there doesn’t seem to be any overfill in the Trans. It’s been light/city driving only but so far so good! Will update if I notice any oil migration in the future.

Yep that’s what I thought. Mines a T-98 but I hear it’s very similar to the T-18 in a lot of ways.

I’m down to only 1-2 drips overnight from that spot and ONLY after the vehicle has been driven.
If just sitting, 1-2 drips per week, maybe.

It’s definitely not spewing oil like it was when the trans was overfilled.

I might add some Lucas oil to the trans in the future to see if it helps seal the O-Ring.
