Hello and thanks for taking time to read this.

Before putting the new wiring harness in the CJ5 I was wondering about installing a remote "kill switch" so that if I'm away from the Jeep while running errands, it can't be hotwired or bump started.

    Has anyone done this?

    Thank you!

I have a master disconnect, ignition switch, and two other switches that have to be on for the jeep to start.

Just put a toggle switch in the coil wire, and hide it out of sight.

I did that while I lived in California . outdoor parking
had a chain on hood too . kept battery safe
hid switch behind heater duct , just above the gas pedal
but if you grew up in the 50's - 70's you knew how to Hotwire a car at a early age

Some relays may not actually need to do anything but connect the circuit. Some relays may be replaced with non functional relays.

Most car thieves nowadays wouldn't know how to take my Jeep out of "Park", or what all those gear shifters are for.

Most common way is to disable the ignition.

    Other options:
    Aftermarket antitheft systems.
    Quick disconnect steering wheel.
    2 piece shifter cane.

    Brake systems:
    Leverlock brake system.
E stopp electrical emergency brake system.
    Brake line shut off valve.
These have the added value of replacing/augmenting your existing parking brake system.

I haven’t done it yet, but I read that a kill switch TM the fuel pump works well. The car sounds like it wants to turn over then dies.

I hardly ever take the keys out of my other vehicles and have never taken the keys out of my old dump truck for 15 years, but I live remotely and don't head into town that much. With my new jeep project, I have been thinking along the same lines. At some time, they were hot commodities to steal not sure nowadays. I have a locking ignition in my 78,' and I would like to take it out and go to an ignition switch in the dash just for aesthetics and make it look a little more like an old jeep. I like the thought of just a simple push-button starter and a toggle kill/battery switch. I think a valve in the fuel line is my best option. The guy in a panic will not want to do much troubleshooting as to why it started and died after they just stole it.

What I worry the most about is I leave my dog in it all the time, and if someone ran off her, it would do me in!

I actually have two "kill" switches on my 3B. One is the battery disconnect on a battery most people will not find; and a second that cuts everything but the high amp leads-a waterproof 120 amp breaker under the locked down hood. The latter cuts all power to the ignition switch.

I suspect that will deter most theft from parking it someplace in the "woods" or maybe even for a short time in an urban parking lot. But as likely as not, the thieves will just load it on a tow truck and drive off these days if they know about it and really want it.

I never leave my dog alone in the truck anywhere near a big parking lot, just too many A$$ hats around these days. So many people here now I have never seen before. I would expect someone to do harm to her if they did not try to steal her. There are three things in life I don't tolerate someone messing with, wife, kids, and my dog.

I use a fuel cutoff in my 550, It gets left on job sites for several hours sometimes. It will start and run about 20 seconds before it starts to run rough and 10 more seconds it shuts off and needs the HYOP primed to restart. A 10 minuite job if you have the tools and know how.

I also have several deterrents including a RFID fob required to start, adapted from a motorcycle.
Would all be for naught as the smaller jeeps are really easy to just flatbed or tow off.

Have a GPS tracker that is less than $50/yr for the service. Difficulty is hiding it while allowing connectivity. Good thing about this one is a “movement” alert.
That is the difficulty with vehicles with mostly metal, and easy access to an intruder to the interior of the jeep

Are there actually ANY vehicles that don't have easy access to the interior? How many seconds to put a rock or something else through a window? About the same amount of time it takes to get in normally. The only downside is the potential attraction drawn doing that.
